UCIA and UCNJ Break Ground on New $35 Million Physical Education Center

Officials from the Union County Improvement Authority (UCIA), Union County and the Union College of Union County, NJ (UCNJ) recently broke ground on the college’s new Physical Education Center (PECK) building at the Cranford campus.

The $35 million renovation project will transform the existing 42,000-square-foot facility into a high-tech, state-of-the-art space designed to enhance athletics, academics, and community engagement.

“Today marks an exciting milestone for Union County as we break ground on the reimagined PECK building,” said Bibi Taylor, Ed.D., Director of the UCIA. “This state-of-the-art facility will transform the heart of campus athletics and community engagement at UCNJ. Once complete, the new PECK will serve as the athletic hub and student resource center – advancing both athletics and academic excellence while creating new opportunities to bring our community together. We are proud to invest in a space that will give our students and the community the cutting-edge facility they deserve.”

Once completed, the new PECK will feature modernized athletic spaces, student resource areas, and upgraded technology infrastructure, positioning it as the central hub for physical education and student life at UCNJ.

The project underscores Union County’s continued investment in higher education and community development. The work is being performed by a local company based in Cranford, New Jersey, M&M Construction Company, Inc.
